Hello Friends,
I’ll never forget the day that marked my spiritual awakening! It was the day I knew I was born again; the day when I began to trust God for my life and my salvation from my own sinful ways…
I had been a prideful, independent, self-centered woman in all of my ways even while under the guise of being a good person—a liturgical church-goer at that time, and a “stay at home” mom, even though I was always pursuing many activities for myself that took me away from home. My husband Jim had been born again about five months earlier through a relational experience he had at a Cursillo when a man took him under his wing and talked with him about giving his life to Christ. I had seen really good changes in Jim after that, but it made me really nervous and my own pride would rise up within me against him in fault-finding, “Who do you think you are getting all spiritual on me when I’m the one doing the ‘praying’ all this time!” Oh my…
We had begun to homeschool at Jim’s insistence just that school year of 1984-’85 and so my world was changing rapidly. Well, one day in May of ’85, I was working in the kitchen listening to the Christian radio that Jim had just introduced to me (I hadn’t known there was such a thing as Christian radio!). A preacher was expounding on the evils of sin and listing different sins, and one of them hit a nerve in me and I blurted out, “That’s not a sin!” And then, “I was right in doing that!” In that instant, God supernaturally awakened my conscience to see not just that specific sin I was arguing against, but He shined a light so bright that my whole sin nature was exposed, and I knew for the first time in my life my true spiritual condition. I was immediately and thoroughly devastated, and ran to my bedroom throwing myself over the bed, sobbing and begging for God’s mercy toward me.
Then and there, God began to re-educate my conscience so that I knew that wrong things were wrong, and I cooperated with Him as He further re-educated my conscience and began the Spirit-led life in Christ. My two-way relationship with God all began with an awakening and re-education of my conscience that God himself performed in me. I’m so forever grateful He rescued me from my own destructive ways, and marked the day I began to cooperate with Him as my spiritual awakening…
I find that so many believers in Christ have neglected the re-education of their conscience. They’ve put on so many works that God didn’t tell them to do for the sake of an appearance of righteousness. This causes them to fall short of receiving the mercy and forgiveness of God that leads to repentance and reconciliation with God, the healing of their relationships, and in turn leads to immense gratitude.
This is why I’ve developed the mini coaching programs, Making Heart-Level Connections. I’m targeting the specific disconnects people have in their understanding about how God works inside of them so they can more fully cooperate toward receiving His love and spiritual blessings.
